This day in area sports history: Jan. 31
1979: Mark Versaw (132 pounds) and Phil Speros (185) each record pins as Riverside defeats Wickliffe, 35-17, and St. Joseph is the lone area boys basketball team in the state poll, ranked fifth in Class AAA.
