The Lake County Captains open their season today at 6:30 p.m. at Classic Park versus the Lansing Lugnuts. So we're throwing back to the home opener last year.

2007: The three area teams in action all lose — Riverside boys basketball in the Division I Euclid District final, Regina girls basketball in a Division III regional final and University hockey in a state semifinal.

1996: Three N-H wrestlers compete for state titles at Wright State but have to settle for second – Euclid 152-pounder Joe Tucceri, Cardinal 189-pounder Josh Seyer and Chardon’s 215-pounder Rick Conroy.

1985: Kim Svendsen scores 17 points and JoAnn Gordon contributes 12 as Kirtland edges Mogadore, 49-46, to improve to 22-1 in a Class A district final at Kent Roosevelt.

Feb. 6, 1994: Perry’s T.J. Huxel, top, is well on his way to a pin over Chris Miller of Grand River during their 103-pound semifinal bout at the East Suburban Conference tournament at Newbury. Huxel won in 3:05.
